Stowmarket - A Pageant in Pictures by Harry Double

A pictorial history of Stowmarket is once again available after it was first published in 1982. Compiled by Harry Double, "Stowmarket - A Pageant in Pictures" was the first of a trilogy of books about the town and covers a period from Victorian and Edwardian times through to the 1960's.

The original edition has been sold out since the mid 1980's and was never reprinted because the plates and film used, were destroyed after the books first publication. As a result, many who have collected the other two books could not get the first, but will now at last be able to complete their collection.

Fortunately, it has been possible to locate all of the original pictures and modern technology has enabled the photographs to be enhanced showing detail never before seen. The pictures in many cases been extended showing parts previously cropped off and the text has been up-dated with the addition of modern locations plus the names of people appearing in some of the photographs.
The book has been in demand for some time and may also appeal to new residents of the town, as well as those who already have an original but wish to see the new clarity.

Priced at £12.99, it is available from outlets local to Stowmarket or directly from imaginaire.
