Felixstowe - Then & Now by Mike Durrant
From the same publishing team that produces 'Spotlight on Felixstowe' magazine and a very popular book on Stowmarket along the same lines produced in 2003, this completely new book chronicles many of the changes which have occurred to the town since the late 1800s by comparing the past with the present.
This 288 page A5 case - bound book has an emphasis on the use of less well known photographs of Felixstowe. Each pair of pages consists of two photographs – those on the left depict what used to be there THEN, with those on the right showing what is there NOW. Each photograph is accompanied by a short historical/informative note which provides an insight into some of the town's history and change.
You will be surprised just how much has altered within the town for which this book serves not only as a nostalgic reminder, but provides those new to the area some great information.
Felixstowe – Then & Now is a book not to be missed and may cause sadness for many, showing the destruction of some beautiful buildings which have been replaced by concrete structures with little character or appeal in the name of 'progress'.
